Winter’s Coming!

Here are some simple tips to help you stay healthy and boost your immunity as your body adapts to the colder weather and we are inside more often.

  • Wash your hands. Wash them with good ‘ole soap, rather than anti-bacterial chemicals.
  • Watch your sugar intake. Avoid – did you read this clearly?  Avoid artificial sugars in all forms!
  • Get sleep. During the time of year when the seasons change, your body has to adapt.  Sometimes this involves extra repair duties.  This repair is done while sleeping.
  • Consider Vitamin D for it’s immune boosting function. Most RDAs are 2000 IUs.  Alan Christianson says get as many as 5000 IUs.  I say aim for at least 2000 IUs.
  • Mush it up – mushrooms, that is. Shitake mushrooms are especially high in immune boosting nutrients, and are easy to find in the grocery store.  Stir fry them with onions, garlic, sea salt; roast them with oven dishes, and add them to soups!
  • Move! Schedule exercise, whether it’s walking outside as the weather gets cooler, working in a gym, or taking a class.  And, think about grabbing some weights a few times a week, too.
  • Drink, drink, drink! Water is super! Hydration fights germs by keeping your tissues moist, so germs can’t stick.
  • Tea is another beverage that warms you as the weather cools, and has antioxidants to keep you healthy. Have a cup each day.  Bone broth is another terrific drink to boost your immunity – in any season.
  • Eat veggies, squash, fall fruits, nuts and beans. Extra fiber in your eating regime can help escort the uggies right out of your habitat.
  • Volunteer! Studies are showing people who volunteer are happier and healthier. Ask us if you need some ideas on how to volunteer!
