Spring has arrived this month, and the weather is glorious! Summer is right around the corner on the calendar. If you follow good nutrition rules, a great thing to do in any season is to eat seasonally and locally – foods grown in your local area. For most of us, this means lots of delicious fruits and vegetables!
I always advocate trying to eat organic produce, and I follow the Environmental Working Group’s rating (ewg.org) for produce that you simply MUST buy organically…and those for which you can skip the organic label.
The Environmental Working Group just released their 2022 Clean Fifteen and Dirty Dozen list of veggies and fruits. This is a great tool to keep handy when you shop and choose your produce. You can find your own copy at ewg.org, or print the one in this blog!
Don’t like to eat fruits and vegetables? Gasp! If this is you, contact us to try our Essential Greens and Daily Antioxidants powders. You mix a serving with water and drink them! These stick packs contain super berries, greens, and phytonutrients that help cleanse and boost your body. They’re delicious, too.
The Clean Fifteen
The EWG suggests these choices have the lowest pesticide residues, and I offer they don’t need to be an organic choice. Take advantage of the growing season and incorporate many of these into your meals:
- Avocados
- Sweet Corn
- Pineapples
- Onions
- Papayas
- Sweet peas (frozen)
- Asparagus
- Honeydew Melon
- Kiwi
- Cabbage
- Mushrooms
- Cantaloupe
- Mangoes
- Watermelon
- Sweet Potatoes
The Dirty Dozen
The Dirty Dozen is named such because of the pesticide residue found on and in these fruits and veggies. Buy organic fruits and vegetables when you reach for the following
- Strawberries
- Spinach
- Kale, Collards, Mustard Greens
- Nectarines
- Apples
- Grapes
- Bell and Hot Peppers
- Cherries
- Peaches
- Pears
- Celery
- Tomatoes
