Go for Your Gold

I really enjoy the Olympics. For years, our family gathered to watch the Opening Ceremony and many of the games. As my kids have grown, they now make the first night a party of sorts with their friends, where I’m sure money is exchanged in relation to their own designed contests, such as who will carry the flag for a certain country, and how many times a certain word or phrase is repeated!
Athletes at the Olympics strive for a gold medal. They practice, train, and work on a daily basis to hone their sport and abilities. They have performance goals that help them achieve success. It’s often a journey of many years!
In honor of the Olympics, I encourage you to think about going for your Personal Gold! Eric Harvey, in his book, Go for the Gold (available at walkthetalk.com), writes that gold is
- Very valuable – often linked with success
- A diverse commodity – it’s found in many sizes, shapes and colors
- Precious…and increases in value over time
- Is mined – extracted through hard work
- Recognized as the epitome of the best achievement
How can you translate this into improving your health and vitality? In this next week, think about how you can go for your Personal Gold. Write down three things you can do today – right now! – to help you achieve Gold. For instance:
- I am going to keep a food and lifestyle journal to evaluate where I can make some changes that will ensure I feel better and have more energy.
- I’m going to cook more meals at home, and freeze some for extra meals when I don’t feel like cooking.
- I’m going to start walking (running, taking the steps, working out) as many days as I can.
To achieve better health and vitality, realize your health is valuable – without good health we suffer. No matter what our situation is, or who we are, we can achieve better health. Our health is very precious – treat it as such. It isn’t given to us – we have work … and work hard – to keep our health. But what a great effort this can be – you’ll feel better, look better, live better, sleep better, work better…you get the idea! Make your best achievement this year be increased vitality and better health. Go for Your Gold!
To Your Vitality!
