Oh Nuts!

Continuing our favorite foods, nuts are some of my favorites and my go-to snack food. Nuts are nutritious, easy to pack for snacks, travel well, and just taste good!
I love just about every kind of nut – almonds, cashews, pistachios, pecans, macadamia nuts! I especially like pistachios in the shell – opening them up slows down consumption! Nuts are known to help lower cholesterol while raising your antioxidant levels in your body. Nuts have hearth-health promoting phytosterols and are a good, healthier source of fat – which the body needs. They have potassium, magnesium, vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids, all nutrients we need, and they have great levels of fiber – some as much as a serving of broccoli!
There is one thing with nuts. They are higher in calories than most snacks, and because they are so delicious, it is easy to over-eat nuts. This is one thing I need to be careful of, so I measure my servings of nuts into bags or a small Dixie cup when I’m going to eat them. Otherwise, the whole bag could disappear before I even realize it!
Nuts are also great in recipes, and can provide a little zest and zing to many of your favorite dishes. The next time you are looking for a snack, grab a serving of nuts and chew, chew, chew. You’ll feel full and your body will feel healthy!
To Your Vitality!
