I use a set of food “rules” with clients.  These suggestions are from my own knowledge and experience plus that of many other people.  One of my favorite food rules guy is author Michael Pollan.  Pollan wrote a new book a few years ago, Food Rules, which is a great manual on food and eating.  Grab a copy – it’s a terrific read!

In the meantime, you can read the food rules Full Circle Vitality Group feels are really important to try to follow! We’ll offer a new set each week in January.  This might be a great way to get back on track in this new year.

For this week, as we segue into a brand-new year, try these rules:

  1. If you “are what you eat,” don’t be cheap…easy… fake…or fast!
  2. Eat real food.  Sounds simple, right?  However, for some of us, it can be difficult.  Try to eat “whole” foods – foods like fruits and vegetables, for instance, in their natural state.
  3. Eat foods made from plants rather than in plants.  Avoid highly processed, packaged foods made by scientists instead of Mother Nature.
  4. Don’t eat anything with ingredients you can’t pronounce. If you can’t say it, don’t eat it!
  5. If you do eat a small amount of processed foods, look for those with less than five ingredients.  It makes the food more like food than a science experiment. Your body will thank you when it begins digestion.
  6. Picture your food in its natural state.  Have you ever seen a donut growing in a field?
  7. Pay more for good food and eat less of it.  Quality food costs more, it’s true, but because it is higher in nutrients and satisfaction, you might need less of it to feel satiated.  Pollan advocates choosing “quality over quantity and a food experience over mere calories.”

So, there you have it – our first installment of Food Rules.  Check back each week in January for more great morsels.  Full Circle Vitality Group can help you with your eating plan – if any of the above resonates with you, give us a call!

To Your Vitality!
