The heart is a marvelous organ.  It is part of our cardiovascular system and has two functions – a blood pumping role and an electrical job, too.  It is small – about the size of a fist, but works really, really hard.

The heart is susceptible to numerous diseases and conditions.  We normally think of a heart attack as a killer, and they are one of the top five causes of death.  However, you may be able to assist and rescue an individual suffering from a cardiovascular event if you know CPR and how to use an AED.

And, there is a local opportunity for you to do just this!

I recently taught a holistic health class at Central Penn College.  During our cardiovascular unit, I asked my students if they knew CPR, if they used it in their occupation, or if they’d like to know how to perform this life-saving technique.  A few students did need to know CPR for their jobs, and just about every other one said they’d love to know how to perform CPR, and how to use an AED, too!  An idea was born! The really neat thing about this is something Central Penn is noted for – providing a real-life education as well as listening to what students need and want.  A professor is trying to make this happen, and it’s very neat!

A friend of mine, Julie Walker, is the founder of the Peyton Walker Foundation, which conducts CPR and AED trainings several times per year, as well as heart screenings for health issues.  The Peyton Walker Foundation has already saved numerous lives with their screenings.  I approached Julie about providing trainings on Central Penn’s campus to my students, other students, staff members, and the community at large.  We obtained two sponsors – Capital Blue Cross and proudly, Full Circle Vitality Group and Central Penn agreed to host and provide refreshments.  So, we’re set for training on January 28, 2019, from 12:30 – 4:30 pm.  The cost is only $5 – for a certification education that normally costs close to $100!
